Your journey in safe hands: UITP coordinates new project Safe Bus

For years, terrorism has been one of the biggest threats facing any public space, and public transport around the world has also withstood attacks.

Safety and security are a top priority for our sector. Our members work tirelessly on ensuring safe travel environments for their passengers: a continual process that should never been taken lightly. Also in bus transport, which is an essential part of our mobility system, ensuring a secure environment should be on the top of the agenda of operators and authorities.

Safe Bus wants to strengthen cooperation in the EU on safety in bus transport

Now, UITP is proud to announce it coordinates Safe Bus, a newly launched EU project aiming to advance safety in bus networks and support the prevention of attacks on the bus network.

Safe Bus will bring around the table special security services and the public transport sector, making sure that all transport providers have access to knowledge about transport safety and emergency procedures. The project will also introduce new training initiatives on the security of public bus transportation systems for both managers and bus drivers, enrich safety procedures and implement ready to use recommended solutions.

Furthermore, Safe Bus will contribute to creating joint concepts in the field of security and harmonised standards for public spaces management for European Union countries.

With UITP at the helm, Safe Bus joins four other consortium partners: ARRIVA, the City of Warsaw, CARRIS and ATAC. The consortium will engage a great number of players from the security and intelligence community across the EU, who will advise on project recommendations and solutions.
